We are hiring!  We have open positions here for Postdoc/Staff Scientist and Research Computing Technician (scroll down).

1. POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR / STAFF SCIENTIST @ OIST

Position Summary:
The Biodiversity and Biocomplexity Unit (PI: Evan Economo,
https://arilab.unit.oist.jp/) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and
Technology (OIST) is seeking to fill multiple Postdoctoral Scholar
positions. Highly experienced candidates may be considered for a Staff
Scientist position. The lab works at the interface of evolution, ecology,
natural history, and technology in order to document and understand
the diversity of life. We integrate a variety of approaches including
field expeditions, collections, phylogenetics, 3D imaging and analysis,
geographic modeling, biodiversity genomics, biodiversity informatics,
and quantitative theory. Our lab has a particular interest in ant
biodiversity, but postdocs and students have worked on various taxa over
the years. See our research (https://arilab.unit.oist.jp/research/)
and publications (https://arilab.unit.oist.jp/publications/) pages
for further details on our activities. The successful candidate will be
provided funding to pursue their research and attend meetings, technician
support, and access to state-of-the art facilities and equipment on the
OIST campus. There will be numerous opportunities to work with other
research groups at OIST and around the world.

Responsibilities:
Postdoctoral Scholars and Staff Scientists are expected to pursue research
projects in collaboration with the PI and other unit members. In addition,
all unit members are expected to support training and mentorship of
students and other unit staff.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate would be a creative and curious scientist eager to
work in an integrative lab with diverse perspectives. In hiring, we will
prioritize the qualities and potential of the candidate rather than fit
to any specific project or taxon, so we encourage all applicants whose
interests may synergize with our lab to apply. Our lab emphasizes a
respectful workplace, constructive environment, and inclusive culture,
and we welcome all applicants regardless of background. The start date
is flexible, but candidates must have a PhD at the time of commencing
the position.

How to Apply:
Applicants should prepare a single pdf file including a cover letter
detailing your scientific background and interest in the position,
your CV, and a list of three references that may be contacted later in
the process. This should be sent via email to economo@oist.jp with the
subject “Postdoc Application”, and informal inquiries are also welcome at
the same address. Applications received by Jan. 5 are guaranteed full
consideration, but review will continue until the position is filled.
